PLAN YOUR LONDON TRIP
Plan Your London Trip: 101
Planning a trip to London? Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, getting the logistics sorted ahead of time makes the whole experience smoother (and often cheaper). From booking flights and finding the right place to stay, to choosing tours and knowing how to get around, this guide covers everything I personally recommend to plan a London trip. No fluff, just reliable resources that actually help. Let’s get you organised so you can focus on enjoying the city!

START WITH FLIGHTS
Best Flight Search Engines
Omio
Perfect when you’re still deciding on dates or airports, with Omio you can search broadly and compare flights, trains, and buses all in one place. I especially love it for UK train travel as it makes hopping between cities or weekend getaways super simple. Just like with any booking platform, prices can change once you click through, but it’s brilliant for spotting options and planning routes.
Aviasales
My new go-to once I’ve narrowed down when I want to travel, I head to Aviasales to compare real-time flight prices and track down the best-value routes. It’s great for finding nonstop options and spotting deals across multiple airlines and booking platforms.
PREPARE FOR YOUR TRIP
Prep & Packing Recommendations
Bags
After being pickpocketed in central London once, I always recommend an anti-theft bag.
Gear
You have to pack a raincoat (of course!), layers, regardless of the season, and good walking shoes.
DECIDE WHERE TO STAY
My Go-To Accommodation Platforms
Booking.com
I almost always start with Booking.com when looking for accommodation. The selection is huge, from hotels to guesthouses and quirky apartments. The filters make it easy to narrow down by budget, location, and even specific amenities (such as free breakfast!).
Vrbo
When I’m after something more homey or local-feeling, Vrbo is my go-to. It’s ideal for longer stays or if you need a kitchen or living room. I also love using it to find unique spots you wouldn’t get with traditional hotels. It’s a great alternative to Airbnb, which can be exceptionally expensive in London.
Pro Tip:
Most Booking.com accommodation options offer free cancellation, which gives a bit of flexibility if plans change.
My favourite London hotels are:
1. The Hoxton, Holborn. It’s trendy, relaxed and in a great, central location.
2. The Ned. Pure luxury and old school glamour. I’ve been to the bar for drinks with friends and LOVE the vibe!
3. The Standard. It’s contemporary, great for design lovers and top of my bucket list.

Book SOME ACTIVITIES!
Here’s Where I Like to Book My Tours
Get Your Guide
GetYourGuide is super easy to use and often has some of the same tours as Viator, but sometimes at different times or prices, so it’s worth comparing. You can filter by language, duration, and rating, which makes it simple to find something that suits your style of travel.
Viator
Viator is packed with options from museum tickets to wine tastings and full-day trips. I use it when I want a hassle-free way to see the highlights in a new place, perfect for first-time visits to London.
How to get around
Transportation Recommendations
Welcome Pickups
If you’re arriving late, travelling with a group, or just want a smooth start to your trip, why not book an airport transfer with Welcome Pickups? You get a professional driver who waits for you at arrivals (with a sign!), helps with luggage, and tracks your flight in case of delays. It’s especially handy when visiting London for the first time and you don’t want to stress about public transport, directions or language barriers.
London Public Transport
You don’t need to buy a travel card – just tap your contactless debit/credit card or phone on the yellow reader at stations and on buses as this works out more cost-effectively. Fares are capped daily and weekly, and it works seamlessly across the Tube, Overground and buses.
Book a Day Trip!
The easiest way to explore the UK is by train or car. I recommend booking your train tickets through Omio and finding the best car hire deals on DiscoverCars – they’re super reliable and offer the best comparison and prices.
