Getting to Camden

Camden Town is pretty central and easy to reach from all over London. It’s on the Northern Line (Underground) and the London Overground via nearby stations like Camden Road. You can also walk to Camden from Regent’s Park or King’s Cross along the Regent’s Canal. It’s a scenic, peaceful route that’s especially lovely on a winter’s day.

15 Best Things to Do in Camden Town, London

From the legendary music venues to a few local secrets, these are the 15 best things to do in the chaotic but iconic Camden Town, London!

1. Explore Camden Market

Camden Market is a food lover’s dream and a must-visit highlight in London. The air is thick with the scent of delicious street food from every corner of the planet, and it’s not uncommon for stallholders to hand out free nibbles! My go-to is Magic Falafel, a little vegan stall opposite the busy Noodle Alley, serving up crispy, golden falafel wraps packed with creamy hummus, pickles, and lots of salad.

Of course, it’s not just about food. Camden’s stalls are full of alternative fashion, handmade jewellery, and all sorts of random bits. Make sure not to miss the alleyway with the yellow umbrella roof for a cute photo opp and even more hidden gems to explore.

Just over the road, Hawley Wharf has a calmer vibe with boutique shops and a more polished food hall setup. It’s a great spot to take a breather, grab a coffee, or sit by the canal and people-watch before heading back into the buzz of the market.

The busy highstreet in Camden London

2. Go Vintage Shopping on Camden High Street

Camden High Street is also a little chaotic, but it’s part of the fun. Massive ‘sculptures’ hang above shopfronts (look out for the giant boots and dragon). Although some of the shops are full of the usual touristy bits, there are still a few vintage gems to be found if you’re up for hunting.

Amazing pizza from Purezza in Camden Town, London

3. Grab a Bite at Purezza (Vegan Pizza Heaven)

I’ve been to Purezza more times than I can count — and I’d recommend it to absolutely anyone, vegan or not. Their sourdough bases are perfect, the toppings are creative and super generous, and the house-made vegan mozzarella is next-level. In fact, I’m pretty sure they once won a major pizza competition against non-vegan pizzerias, which says it all.

Whether you’re into truffle toppings, loaded margheritas, or indulgent cashew tiramisu, this place nails it. It’s cosy, cool, and consistently delicious — a proper Camden gem.

Three punks in Camden London

4. Get a Punk Drunk at the Iconic Camden Lock Bridge

If you’ve been to Camden, you’ve probably seen them… The mohawked punks with studded jackets holding signs that read “Get a Punk Drunk for £1”. They’re normally hanging out on Camden Lock Bridge, which is also one of the most photographed spots in the area.

I’m not necessarily suggesting you hand over your spare change, but it’s all part of the Camden experience.

Regents Canal in Camden London

5. Walk the Regent’s Canal from Camden to Coal Drops Yard

This is one of my favourite walks in the area, and it starts right in the middle of Camden. Head east along the Regent’s Canal towpath, and within minutes, you’re surrounded by greenery, houseboats, and peace and quiet. It’s leafy all year round, with beautiful willows, overhanging trees, and ducks gliding past like you’re nowhere near central London!

The walk takes you all the way to Coal Drops Yard in King’s Cross — a beautifully redeveloped spot with great shops, cafes, and an open plaza perfect for people-watching. It’s the ideal way to slow the pace and see a different side of the city.

The Jenny Wren canal boat on Regents Canal in London

6. Take a Boat Trip Along Regent’s Canal

I’ve only done a Regent’s Canal boat trip once (and it started further west), but every time I see the colourful canal boats passing through Camden, it looks like SO much fun. Whether you’re after a guided ride, a relaxed cruise, or even a quirky themed boat experience, there are lots to choose from.

The Jenny Wren runs regular trips between Camden and Little Venice, gliding past beautiful townhouses and even past London Zoo. It’s a chilled way to see the area from a completely different perspective — and a great option if your feet need a break after wandering the markets.

The view of London's skyline from Primrose Hill

7. Climb Primrose Hill for the Amazing Views

Just a short walk from Camden, Primrose Hill offers one of the best views in London. Start from Chalk Farm station and wander up Regent’s Park Road. You’ll pass adorable cafés and independent shops that feel a world away from the buzz of Camden. Then it’s a gentle climb to the top of the hill, where you’ll be rewarded with views of the city skyline.

A monkey in London Zoo

8. Visit London Zoo (In Regent’s Park!)

Just a short walk from Camden, London Zoo makes for a great change of pace. I’ll be honest, I’m not usually a fan of zoos, and I wouldn’t recommend one lightly. But London Zoo is a conservation charity, and if your ticket money is going toward protecting endangered species and habitats, then I think it’s worth supporting.

Last time I went, I saw lion cubs and baby gorillas — adorable! Whether you’re going with kids or just want to spend an afternoon somewhere a bit more peaceful, it’s a feel-good visit with good intentions all round.

The Amy Winehouse statue in Camden Market

9. Stop by the Amy Winehouse Statue

Inside Camden Market, you’ll find a life-size bronze statue of Amy Winehouse. It’s worth pausing here for a moment as you explore the market — even if you weren’t a fan, there’s no denying she was an icon. Amy lived in Camden and was often seen around the area. Locals still leave flowers and handwritten notes at her feet.

Bonus Tip for Winehouse fans: Just around the corner is The Hawley Arms, Amy’s favourite pub. Grab a drink, soak up the atmosphere, and raise a glass to one of Camden’s greats.

The cyberdog robots in Camden Market

10. Step Into Cyberdog (For a Truly Camden Experience)

Even if neon ravewear isn’t your thing, Cyberdog is worth seeing — if only for the weirdness of it all. With blasting music, UV lights, and staff in full futuristic outfits, it feels more like a nightclub than a shop. Think glow-in-the-dark everything, platform boots, and questionable cyberpunk accessories.

The Roundhouse music venue in Camden

11. Catch a Gig at the Roundhouse

The Roundhouse is one of London’s most iconic music venues — and one of the best places to see live music in Camden. It’s a converted railway engine shed with incredible acoustics and a circular layout that gives shows an intimate feel. I saw Hak Baker here and it was honestly one of the best gigs I’ve been to. The atmosphere was amazing, and the venue itself just adds to the experience.

From emerging artists to major names, there’s always something worth seeing here. You can check out what’s on HERE if you’re planning a visit.

Outside the Blues Kitchen bar

12. Experience Live Music at The Blues Kitchen

My all-time favourite Camden nights out involved dancing at The Blues Kitchen — and not just for the incredible live soul and funk music. The Camden branch feels cosier than in Shoreditch or Brixton. I’ve spent many nights enjoying their in-house blues band and cocktail bar until the small hours!

They host live music nearly every night of the week: barrelhouse blues on Mondays, Motown and soul sets midweek, and DJ‑led funk/party vibes on weekends. As a Camden local, I can honestly say it’s a reliable go-to when you want good food, great drinks, and live music rolled into one.

Outside Koko nightclub in Camden

13. Check Out What’s On at KOKO

Housed in a restored Victorian theatre, KOKO is one of Camden’s most iconic venues — and easily one of the most atmospheric places I’ve ever seen a gig. I’ve been to plenty of shows here over the years, and even spent a New Year’s Eve there. It really is something special.

Whether you’re into live music, club nights, or intimate DJ sets, there’s always something interesting on the calendar — and the space itself makes everything feel a bit more magical. Keep an eye on their listings HERE if you’re heading to Camden — you might just catch something unforgettable.

14. Enjoy a Night at the Jazz Cafe

A real Camden gem, the Jazz Cafe is a cosy, dimly lit venue that punches well above its size when it comes to atmosphere. From jazz and soul to hip hop and afrobeat, the lineup here is always eclectic and full of talent and the crowd is usually made up of proper music lovers.

15. Laugh It Off at Camden Comedy Club

Tucked above The Camden Head pub, Camden Comedy Club is a brilliant little spot to end your evening with some laughs. It’s intimate, unpretentious, and often features rising stars alongside big-name comics testing new material. You never quite know what you’re going to get (in the best way).
